I'm having coffee this afternoon with a man whose son I helped coach years ago. This son has recently returned from the Khorengal Valley, and is currently at Fort Campbell, waiting for his next assignment.

I received daily/weekly e-mails of his experiences while he was there, that I wanted to share, but, to protect the identity of this young man, I did not.

The politics of Washington, D.C. have infected our military with outlooks on "what an appropriate military will look like" rather than on war fighting. Serious disconnects between field grade and company grade officers.

And our current strategic world view? Our nation's enunciated policy on conflict?

Sure do love this "change" thing.

Thanks for your post. My heart is with the families.

Like you I want to honor our military heroes and their families--especially those who have given the last measure of devotion.

Thank you for your comment.
